Unique Ewe FAQ

Q: How long has Unique Ewe been in business?

A: Unique Ewe was started in the fall of 2006. It began as a pre-holiday gift-making venture, designing unique items for family and friends out of recycled garments, and expanded quickly into a business.

Q: Where do you get the recycled materials?

A: Recycled materials are purchased from non-profit organizations. Woolen sweaters, men’s shirts, women’s skirts, and vintage neckties are examples of the types of materials purchased. Newly purchased fleece material is generally used to line woolen items. Vintage buttons, buckles and other embellishments are purchased from various sources.

Q: Where do you get your ideas for each piece?

A: Contemporary and vintage patterns and fashion trends provide inspiration for original design ideas. The results are, unique creations with retro flare and modern personality.

Q: Is each item really a one-of-a-kind?

A: Absolutely! I could not recreate an item even if I wanted to. Using recycled garments, I only have a certain amount of that particular fabric to work with…and then it’s gone.

Q: What types of items do you make?

A: My line of products is constantly expanding. At this time, I am creating women and children’s jackets, dresses, hats, mittens and scarves. I also take special orders for an entirely “green” wardrobe for children, made from recycled materials.

Q: What makes Unique Ewe unique?

A: One-of-a-kind wearable artwork, created using earth-friendly materials, makes a unique statement of ecological and humanitarian awareness.

Q: How does a Unique Ewe item make a statement about ecological and humanitarian awareness?

A: The conscious decision to use materials that are already in existence rather than increasing the need to create more is an ecological consideration. The purchase of the materials from non-profit, charitable organizations, means that the money used will go toward humanitarian efforts of serving people in need. Also, the donation of a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each item is made to Heifer International, an organization dedicated to helping to end hunger throughout the world. Not only do I, as the artist, consider and support these efforts but the wearer does so as well, through the purchase of each item.
